Adaptive Reuse
TBA Architects has successfully completed dozens of adaptive reuse projects, ranging from museums, education centers, and commercial spaces to apartments, offices and environmental laboratories. Our services extend from feasibility and master planning through design and construction. For our excellence in the area, TBA has been recognized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the U.S. Department of the Interior and numerous municipalities.
We advance our clients’ interests through thoughtful programming and technical analysis of the historic structure. TBA pays special attention to building systems to make sure our reuse optimizes the existing space and fabric of the building.
TBA is particularly expert in the reuse of and addition to historic structures. We are adept at changing a building’s use and function while maintaining its historical context and integrity. TBA has planned and executed the renovation, historic restoration, and conversion of historic structures of all building types. From the 17th to 20th Centuries, our work includes mill buildings, hotels, housing, school buildings, courthouses, barn structures, train depots, and even a gas station. Our end uses range from scientific and environmental laboratories, museums, classrooms, retail and commercial spaces, offices and residences to municipal uses including offices, schools, assembly and performance spaces, and public facilities.
