Accessibility Improvements & Renovations
Stations 1, 4, 5, 6, & 7
Brookline, Massachusetts
Completed 2012
As the House Doctor Architectural Consultant for the Town of Brookline Building Department TBA Architects, Inc. provided a comprehensive ADA and Accessibility Review, Code Review Analysis and Design through Construction Administration Services for Interior Reconfigurations and Alterations at Brookline Fire Stations #s 1, 4, 5, 6 & 7.
In 2011-2012 TBA conducted an ADA and Accessibility Review for Fire Stations #s 1, 4, 5, 6 & 7 to determine deficiencies and develop recommendations for design solutions to address renovations required for compliance. The design solutions we prepared included a public accessible restroom, parking space and accessible entrance for each facility.
In 2012 TBA conducted a Code Review at Fire Stations #s 1, 4, 5, 6 & 7 to determine if proposed structural and interior finishes renovations and repairs at these sites met the standards required by the 8th Edition of the Massachusetts State Building Code for Category IV facilities. Our review of these documents supplemented by site visits to each fire station under review concluded that all proposed repairs and alterations were compliant with the Code and could proceed to design and construction phases without seismic upgrades to the facilities.
In 2013 and 2014, Repair and Alteration projects at the Fire Stations #s 4, 5, 6 & 7 included reconfiguration of 2nd floor existing space to accommodate subdivision of bunk rooms for private or shared space use and exercise space; new partitions and doors; replacement of interior fixtures and paint. New rubber flooring was installed for exercise space. Alterations to existing electrical and HVAC systems to accommodate reconfigured space were also provided to complete reconfiguration.
